John E. LoRusso, 88, of Stamford passed away peacefully at his home after a brief illness on Wednesday, December 24, 2014. John was born on March 8th, 1926 in Stamford to the late James and Philomena Miaorano LoRusso.
John was a veteran of World War II. At the age of just 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy, in 1944 and served on a Support Gunship PC573. He has since participated yearly in the Stamford Veteran’s Day Parade. He owned and operated a service station in Stamford, also worked in new car sales for Redman Chevrolet, which later became Mill River Motors. He was an avid golfer, frequent passenger on the Thursday bus to Foxwoods Casino, a member of the American Legion and an usher at Sacred Heart Church of Stamford at the Saturday night mass.
John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Rosemary Ross LoRusso. He is also survived by three sons John LoRusso, Jr., and his wife Elizabeth of Westport, and their son Joey. Jeffrey and his wife Lynne of New Canaan and their children Matthew, Daniel, and Andrew. Richard LoRusso and his wife Lisa of Stamford and their children Christopher, Jason, and Nicole. He was a proud grandfather and spent countless hours attending the grandsons sporting events and his granddaughters dance recitals.
Besides his parents, John is predeceased by his siblings Michael, Dominick, Louis, Nicholas, and James LoRusso, Judith Vozzella and Felicia Panucci.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Monday December 29, 2014 at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. Burial will be private. Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home Funeral Home and Crematory on Sunday December 28, 2014 from 2:00 to 6:00PM.
