John Donald Memale, age 92, died on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Stamford Hospital with his daughter Donnajean by his side. Born March 25, 1920 in Stamford, he was the son of Peter and Giovanna Memoli. He graduated from the State Trade School (J. M. Wright Technical School). John served as an aircraft mechanic in the 5th Army Air Corps during World War II. John was married to his wife Dorothy Sennewald Memale for 55 years. He worked at Yale & Towne, Paper Novelty, Electrolux, AMF, and Thermatool before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the Knight of Columbus Council #41. In his retirement years, John enjoyed home repairs, watching his favorite NY Yankees, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters Donnajean Pettit and her husband John of Derwood, MD, Diane Nomack and her husband Donnie of Stratford, CT, and Jennifer Gautrau and her husband Al, of Stamford, with whom he shared his home. He had seven grandchildren, Sarah and John Pettit, Jesse and Mallory Nomack, and Alyssa, AJ, and Julia Gautrau. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, and his brothers, Frank and Donald Memale, and sister Sally Memale.

Family and friends may call at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Saturday, February 16th, 2013 from 8:30AM to 9:30AM, A procession will then be leaving the funeral home and proceed for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at the St. Bridget’s of Ireland, RC Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave., Stamford, CT 06902 at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at the St. John’s RC Cemetery, Camp Ave., Darien, CT 06820.
