John Morgera, 76, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Stamford Hospital. Born on June 10, 1934 in Rochester, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Paul and Angela Camerota Morgera.

John was a veteran of the Korean War, having served as a PFC in the United States Marine Corps. from 1951-1953. He was employed by Connecticut Plate Glass of Stamford since the age of 19, then becoming the proprietor of The Glass Store, Inc. at 968-2 High Ridge Road, Stamford, in 1978, of which remains family owned and operated. He was a member of the J.K.A. Karate Dojo, formerly of Darien, of which he was a Second Degree Black Belt. John was a member of the Piedmont Club of Darien and was an avid sports fan, especially rooting for the NY Yankees, NY Giant, and Boston Celtics. However, his grandchildren were his greatest joy.

John is survived by his wife, Marie Desimone Morgera formerly of Stamford; his children, a son Paul Morgera and his wife Suzanne of Stamford, a daughter Angela Walsh and her husband Chris formerly of Stamford, sons Salvatore Morgera and his wife Debra of Boynton Beach, FL and Anthony Morgera and his companion Melissa formerly of Stamford; sisters, Phyllis Esposito and her husband Tony of Kissimmee, FL, Mildred Persico and her husband Louie of Stamford and Sylvia Falso and her husband Albert of Latina, Italy; his grandchildren, John Morgera and his wife Valerie, SPC William Morgera, US Army, Timothy and Amanda Walsh and Owen Morgera. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his siblings, brother Salvatore Morgera, sisters Mary Moccia, Gina Stabile and Helen Tuccinardi, and brother Adam Morgera.

A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 8:30AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30AM at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien, CT. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, July 29, 2010 from 4:00-8:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in John’s name to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

The Morgera Family would like to acknowledge the doctors, nurses and aides of the Stamford Hospital Intensive Care Unit for going above and beyond in the care of John.
