John A. Romano, Sr., 80, of Stamford passed away peacefully on June 26, 2014 at Stamford Hospital with his loving family by his side. John was born in Minturno, Italy on January 2, 1934 to the late Nicholas and Mary Grace Mallozzi Romano.
John served in the US Army from 1954 to 1958, was a member of the Piedmont Club of Darien as well as the Knights of Columbus. John was a carpenter with the Local 210 and the founder of A&J Romano Construction Company. John was an avid golfer and was a member of the “Has-Beens” golf club, having made two holes in one. For the last twenty years, John enjoyed spending the winters at his home in Naples, FL where he enjoyed the company of many friends and their bocce games.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Kikta Romano of Stamford, his daughter Renee Bornstein and her husband Hank of Stamford, his son, John Romano and his wife Dona, of Stamford, his brother Anthony J. Romano of Stamford and his sister Carmela Bruno of Stamford. His four grandchildren, Michael and Joanna Bornstein and Michelle and Brian Romano also survive.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT at 9:15AM on Wednesday July 2, 2014 and proceed to Holy Spirit RC Church, 403 Scofieldtown Rd, Stamford, CT, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday July 1, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00PM.
