John Tisano
December 5, 1925 — November 14, 2015
John G. Tisano (Pop’s), from Lakewood, PA. passed away peacefully on November 14, 2015 in Bridgeport, CT., surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Stamford on December 5, 1925 to the late Frank and Theresa Tisano. He was raised and lived in Stamford until moving to Pennsylvania 10 years ago. John was predeceased by his loving wife of almost 50 years Esther W. Tisano. He leaves behind two sons, Thomas & his wife Theresa, David Tisano & his wife Lisa, and one daughter Susan Achilles & her husband Paul Fitzgerald. John was blessed to have four grandchildren: Thomas Tisano, Kristen Tisano, Katy Achilles and Chase Tisano. John is also survived by his siblings Peter Tisano and Catherine Tarantino. He was predeceased by other siblings James Tisano, Patrick Tisano, Josephine Vezzetti and Florence Michaels, and countless other family members and friends, all of whom he loved very much.
His favorite times were spent with his grandchildren and his own children. John was a very loving and family oriented man, dedicating his entire existence to his family. He studied and worked as an apprentice for six years to gain expertise in his profession as a Photo Engraver, working for the Norton McCall Corporation. When his profession became automated, John and Esther purchased Bill& Fred’s Variety Store, the hub of Springdale and a “meeting spot” for all. John loved golf, hunting, studying the horses at racetracks and the NY Post puzzle. John was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations; he proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII.
The family would like to offer special and sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and aides at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
John’s family and friends may be greeted at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Friday Nov. 20, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, small donations may be made to the charity of your choice, in John’s name.
