Joseph R. Arena, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at his home in Ridgefield. Born May 3, 1925 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Peter and Pauline Biancardi Arena.
Joseph graduated Stamford High School Class of 1943 and attended New York University and the University of Connecticut. He was a Buyer and Manager of mens apparel at Bobs Sports in New Canaan until his retirement in July 1987. Mr. Arena was a Veteran of the US Army having served in WWII and received and was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree; American Legion; Disabled American Veterans; Ridgefield Senior Center; AARP- Local and National; the Ridgefield Italian American Mutual Aid Society and the Ridgefield Mens Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Galella of Ridgefield; two sons, Carl P. Arena of Oak Ridge, NJ; and Alan J. Arena of Stafford, VA; a daughter, Suzanne A. Berg of Shelton, CT; a brother, Pat Arena of Sarasota, FL; a sister, Frances Rella of Danbury; four granddaughters and one great grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Marys RC Church, 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, CT on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 10:15 AM. Interment will follow at St. Marys Cemetery in Ridgefield. There will be no calling hours.
