Joseph James Boccuzzi, 79, of Stamford, the beloved husband of Stella Giamba Boccuzzi, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Stamford Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Joseph, one of nine children, was born on October 16, 1929 in Stamford to the late Raphael and Carmella Ottaviano Boccuzzi.
Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be sorely missed by all of those whose lives he touched through his service to Sacred Heart Parish, the North Stamford Lion’s Club, and as the owner for 37 years of Mayflower Delicatessen.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by his loving children, Joseph R. Boccuzzi & his wife Marcia of Trumbull, Ralph Boccuzzi & his wife Lynne of New Canaan, and Mary Manoni & her husband Kevin of Monroe. Also left to cherish his memory are his loving grandchildren, Julianne & Joseph Boccuzzi, Lisa & Nicholas Boccuzzi, and Michael, Kevin, Daniel, & Marcella Manoni. Joseph is also survived by his brothers & their wives, Ted & Gloria, Ralph & Corrine, Michael & Marilyn, Edward, Carmine, sister Barbara Downey, sisters-in-law, Audrey Boccuzzi, Catherine Bonina, Amelia Franchina and brother-in-law Thomas Rosso. He also leaves a host of very special nieces and nephews and found joy in all their children.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Gene and Antonio, and sisters-in-law Carole Boccuzzi and Angelina Rosso.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Sunday, May 31 from 3-7 PM.
A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:40 AM on Monday, June 1 and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien.
