Joseph G. Capone, Sr. (Mr. Joe), 93, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Stamford Hospital. Born March 15, 1913 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Augustino Capone and Ignazia (Rinella) Capone. He was a life long resident of Stamford.
He served in the US Army during WWII, in Texarkana Ordinance Department in Texarkana, Texas. He was employed by Paul Bacco & Son Contractors for 18 years. He also worked at Norma Hoffman-FAG Bearing, Excelsior Hardware, and Charles L. Woundy Automotive. He retired from the City of Stamford Park Department in 1978.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Carlson Capone; two sons, Joseph Capone, Jr. and his wife Bridjay; and their children, Joe III, Brian, Joeilynnae, and R.J. all of Stamford; and Gary Capone and his wife, Susan; their children, Bill, Kristen, Casey, and Matt, and grandchildren, Morgan and Johnny all of Danbury; and a daughter, Shari Capone Halvorsen and her husband, Richard, of Westbrook, CT; and their children, Lauren and Erik.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters, Mary Capone, Pauline Boccadoro and Josephine Boccadoro of Stamford; and Frances Pagano of Hollywood, FL.
Friends and family may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. A funeral procession will then proceed to St. Mary RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM.
