Joseph Celotto, a native of Stamford and former resident of Weston, passed away on March 23, 2007 at Richard Rosenthal Hospice in Stamford. Born in Stamford on March 27, 1922, he was the son of the late Ralph and Blanche Twardy Celotto.
A 1939 graduate of Stamford High School, he joined the US Army in 1942 and went overseas with the 10th Armored Infantry Division serving in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and won a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Joseph went into the restaurant business with his brother and worked for the US Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Joe was an avid tennis player and an active member of the Italian Center in Stamford.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Biasotti Celotto of Fairfield; two step-sons, Harry Quick and his wife, Martine; and Thomas Quick and his wife, Laurie; four grandchildren, Greg, Edward, Kelsie, and Bradley Quick, all of Fairfield; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Ralph, Albert and Harry Celotto; and two sisters, Florence and Catherine.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Sunday, March 25, 2007 from 3:00 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 26, 2007 at Our Lady of Assumption RC Church, Stratfield Road in Fairfield. Interment will be held at a later date.
