Joseph Corbo

Joseph S. Corbo, 95, of Stamford passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday November 2, 2010 at Stamford Hospital. Born December 27, 1914 in Arena, Italy, Province of Vibo Valencia, he was the son of the late Francesco and Anna Siciliano Corbo.
Joseph arrived in Stamford in 1932 and was a barber in New York City, eventually owning his own barber shop in Manhattan for many years before working in the defense industry. Taking a job with Pitney Bowes of Stamford, he was responsible for creating a manufacturing technique that increased production dramatically, for which he received recognition. Retiring in 1979, he enjoyed over 20 years in his “paradise,” St. Augustine, Florida, with his beloved wife Josephine.
Joseph is survived by a son, Frank M. Corbo, and his wife Lisabeth Comm-Corbo of Newtown; grandchildren: Catherine Klik of Stamford, and Carol Hammond and her husband David of Stamford; great grandchildren: Daniel, Emily, Bethany Hammond, all of Stamford. He is also survived by a sister Enrica Valenzisi of Stamford and her children: Maria Sperduti, Bruno Valenzisi, Frank Valenzisi and Anna Christopher, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins here and in Italy.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Josephine Sorbara Corbo, a daughter Anne Corbo and two sisters: Caterina and Raffaela.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 8:50AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30AM at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler, Stamford, CT 06902. Entombment will follow at St. John’s RC Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, November 5, 2010 from 4:00-8:00PM.
