Joseph Armando Fumega, 75, of Darien, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Stamford Hospital.

Born August 10, 1932 in Havana, Cuba, he was the son of the late Frank and Hortensia Casador Fumega. Armando came to the USA in 1947, and was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1952. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955 as a Sergeant, where he was a Tank Commander for the 2nd Armored Division. He was a member of the Piedmont Club of Darien, and the Golden Oldies Club of Pitney Bowes. Joe was an employee of Pitney Bowes for thirty-one years, and retired as a Group Leader in 1995. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for Pitney Bowes Federal Credit Union having served over twenty years and was an avid golfer.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Laurie and her husband, Raymond (Butch) Bianchi, of Stratford; and their children, Anthony, Christina and Nicholas; a son, Frank and his wife, Dee Fumega, of Stamford; and their children, Ben and Jena-Lynn; a sister, Bertha Fumega Stuart and her husband, John, of Darien; a sister-in-law, Leslie Fumega of Norwalk; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jennie Cotugno Fumega; a son, Joseph A. Fumega; a brother, Chris Fumega; and a nephew, Ronny Stuart.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Wednesday, July 2 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:40 AM on Thursday, July 3 and proceed to Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church, 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien. www.cognetta.com
