Joseph P. Lukiw, 84, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 17, 2013 at Long Ridge of Stamford. Joseph was born on March 16, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Paul and Anna Brylinski Lukiw.
Joseph was an active member of the Ukrainian Providence Association as well as a member of LUC. He was an avid golfer and a graduate of Fairfield University. Joseph also served in the United States Army and was a retired teacher for New Canaan Public Schools.
Joseph is survived by his two sisters, Sister Theodosia O.S.B.M. of New York, NY and Sister Chrysostom O.S.B.M. of Foxchase, PA, one brother, Paul Lukiw of Mokena, IL; two nieces, Janet DeLeo and Mary Ann Cox; and one nephew, Thomas S. Nosenzo.
Besides his parents, Joseph is predeceased by his sister Sophie Nosenzo.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Monday September 23, 2013 at 9:30AM and proceed to St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 24 Wenzel Terrace, Stamford for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at St. John RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday September 22, 2013 from 1:00 to 5:00PM, with a Panahyda Service to take place at 5:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 24 Wenzel Terrace, Stamford, CT 06902.
