Joseph F. McDonald, 85, a longtime Stamford, CT resident, died peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 19, 1925, Joe was the son of James V. and Emma F. (Blaw) McDonald. His wife of 34 years, Marie (Moore) McDonald died in 1991.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Cynthia M. Allegrezza of Worcester, MA; two sons, Kevin J. McDonald and his wife Lise of Old Greenwich and Robert C. McDonald and his wife Christine of Stamford; two beloved granddaughters, Lauren M. Allegrezza and Julia E. McDonald; his twin brother George M. McDonald and his wife Patsieann M. of Cincinnati, OH; a sister-in-law Peggy G. French of Lawrence, KS; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers James V. McDonald and John L. McDonald.
Joe was a graduate of Stamford High School and attended Merrill Business School.
During World War II, he proudly served his country as a member of the 83 Division Signal Company in the European Theatre. When he returned home from the Army, Joe began his 41 year long career with Machlett Laboratories in Stamford, CT which later became Raytheon Company.
His strong faith and an unwavering belief in God contributed to the importance of religion in his life. Joe was a longtime member of St. Maurice’s RC Church and was a Eucharistic Minister. He also had been a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Augustine Council #41.
Joe loved music and playing the piano. He had an affinity for the theatre particularly seeing Broadway shows with his wife Marie. He enjoyed sports, especially the Yankees and the Giants. Joe loved to swim, and enjoyed taking trips with his family to New Hampshire, Maine and the Jersey Shore. Joe enjoyed walking around Cove Island Park. He savored the time he spent with his family and friends and always enjoyed a good laugh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 9AM at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Monday, April 5, 2010 from 5:00-8:00PM.
