Joseph Richichi, 68, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2014 with his loving family by his side. Joe was born in Stamford, CT on May 12, 1946 to the late Dominick and Santa Palermo Richichi.
Joe loved to laugh and had an amazing sense of humor. He was adored by many and touched the lives of everyone he met. He loved to travel, especially trips to Italy, and he was an avid fan of the ocean and his boat. He shared these loves with his family and instilled in his children the same love of travel and of being on the water.
His family was the most important thing to him. He believed that the purpose of life was to enjoy every moment and he loved the life he had made and lived it well.
Joe graduated Stamford High School (Class of ’64) and went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut (Class of ’68) as well as the University of Connecticut School of Law (Class of ’71). He was also a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He later formed the law firm of Joseph Richichi LLC, where he was a practicing attorney and he was a member of the Board at the Italian Center as well as the Housing Authority. He also helped to organize the Annual Memorial Service at Cove Island Park to honor Marine Pfc. Richard Broadhurst, the first marine casualty to die in the Vietnam War from the State of Connecticut.
Joe is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Georgy” Vance Richichi; his daughter, Danielle Paccione and her husband Joseph of New York, NY; his son, Jon Richichi and his wife Brigitte of Stamford; his sister, Sandy Laganza and her husband Joseph of Norwalk; his brother, Anthony and his wife Janice of Stamford and his brother, Dominick and his wife Darlene of Stamford. He is also survived by his two beloved grandchildren, Joseph (J.J.) and Nicole Paccione as well as several adoring nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 11:00AM at St. Leo’s Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to handle the arrangements.
