Josephine Frances Broadhurst, 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford. Born on July 23, 1911 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Maria Lucia Carlucci Verrastro.

Josephine was a resident of Stamford for 89 years before moving to Monroe. She was an employee of SNET Telephone Company and the City of Stamford Board of Education, retiring in 1977. Josephine was an honorary member of the Sacred Heart Church Rosary Society, a member of the Sacred Heart Senior Club, Stamford Chapter #03198 National Council Seniors, AARP Chapter #2651 of Stamford, the Glenbrook Senior Club, Springdale Senior Club and the St. Maurice Church Club.

She is survived by a son, Charles F. Broadhurst and his wife Marion of Stamford; a daughter, Mary Ann Mennona and her husband Anthony J. of Monroe; five grandchildren: Mary Jo Mennona, William E. Broadhurst, David A. Mennona, Matthew C. Broadhurst and Steven J. Broadhurst; and six great-grandchildren: Debbie and Jamie Mennona, Ashley Broadhurst, Anthony J. and Kaylie Broadhurst and Anthony J. Mennona.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William E. Broadhurst; her son, William J. Broadhurst; a sister, Jennie M. Ferretti; and three brothers, Leonard V., Sr., Angelo J., and William A. Verrastro.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Saturday, January 3 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. A funeral procession will then leave the funeral home and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Darien.
