Josephine Butts

Josephine DelVecchio Butts, 95, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Smith House in Stamford. Born June 3, 1914 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Gentile DelVecchio.

Josephine was a lifelong city resident. She worked at Yale and Towne and after raising her children, returned to work and was employed by the Stamford Board of Education Food Services. She was an avid Yankees fan, and enjoyed reading, word books and winning at bingo.

Josephine is survived by two sons: Michael Butts and his wife Nancy of Norwalk; and Richard Leone and his wife Alberta of Stamford; a daughter, Barbara Arcano and her husband Nick of Lake Wales, FL; two sisters: Margaret (Peg) Serricchio and her husband Don of Stamford; and Conchetta Hadala of FL; a special niece, Sue DeLeo and her husband Jack of Trumbull; and a special cousin, Louise Sierpina of Stamford. Three granddaughters; one grandson; three great granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roger M. Butts; three brothers: Carter, Carl and Joseph DelVecchio; a sister, Louise Benedetti; and three nieces.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Smith House for their outstanding care of Josephine this past year. You treated her like family and in return, she made you a part of hers. Our gratitude for all your prayers and support these last few weeks.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Tuesday, June 23 from 4:00 �" 7:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 10:20 AM on Wednesday, June 24, and proceed to Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Stamford.
