Josephine G. Lavery,83, a longtime resident of Stamford passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, August 23, 2018. Josephine was born in Greenwich, CT, on November 28, 1934, daughter of the late Rocco and Gertrude Powel Pennella.
Josephine was a former employee of Pitney Bowes where she served as the company store assistant manager. Josephine loved to socialize, dance and go bowling, she was also an amazing cook. Josephine was a selfless, loving mother, and very caring to all she knew, most of all she adored and loved her grandchildren.
Josephine is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Arthur Patrick Lavery, of Stamford and their children, son Arthur Patrick Lavery, Jr., and his girlfriend Debra Eberhardt of Riverside, daughter Cynthia Valenti and her husband Bill of Stamford, and her son Jonathan Lavery and wife Tracy of Stamford. She is also survived by a sister Jean Florio of Madison, CT, along with many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her three cherished grandchildren Samantha, Matthew, and Jake.
Besides her parents Josephine is predeceased by her sisters, Catherine Greto, Angie Coppola and Mary Keller and a brother Billy Pennella.

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT, on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 9:30AM and processing to St. Bridget’s of Ireland RC Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave., Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM, Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Mausoleum of Greenwich, CT.
