Josephine Sabia LoPiano, 89, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Bridgeport. Born January 8, 1920 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late James J. and Vita Maria Santarsiero Sabia.

Josephine was a chef for twenty five years at their family-owned restaurant, Casa Maria in Stamford. She loved cooking and continued to do so for family, even after her retirement in the 1980’s.

She is survived by two daughters: Donna LoPiano and Cindy M. LoPiano, both of Easton; a son, Thomas V. LoPiano, Jr. and his wife, Cynthia of Milford; two grandsons, Adam T. and Michael T. LoPiano; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas LoPiano, Sr.; a grandson, Matthew T. LoPiano; four sisters: Anna Possidento, Margaret Fusci, Jennie Sabia and Carmella Kuchta; and a brother, John Sabia.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Wednesday, July 8 from 4:00 �" 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 8:40 AM on Thursday, July 9 and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
