Josephine Picciallo, 103, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Born on November 16, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Sabino and Maria Teresa Leonetti Ottaviano.

Josephine was a former employee of Clairol Inc. retiring in the mid 1960’s. She was a homemaker whose love of cooking and baking was shared with her entire family including her great-great-grandson. She was an honorary member of the Gravinese Mutual Aid Society, where she was the last and oldest living of the original members. She was also the oldest living member of Sacred Heart RC Church.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Picciallo & his wife Maria, and Frank Picciallo; a daughter, Antonia Smeriglio, all of Stamford; a sister, Minnie Perone; eight grandchildren, Angelo Picciallo, Marie Mojica, Linda Uva, Diana DiBartolomeo, Barbara Labbadia, Michael Smeriglio, Angela Sciarretta, and Dorothy Picciallo; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Angelo Ralph Picciallo; a son, Sam Picciallo; a son-in-law, Joseph Smeriglio; and four sisters, Philomena Fronio, Mildred Gasparino, Helen Smeriglio, and Margaret Rainone; and a brother, Albert Ottaviano.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, May 29 from 4-8 PM.

A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 10:40 AM on Saturday, May 30, and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien.
