Josephine Sabia

Josephine Sabia, 90, passed away peacefully at Courtland Gardens Health Center on December 5, 2008.
She was a lifelong resident of Stamford. Born on May 8, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Susan Tato Iorio.
Josephine worked at Microphase in Norwalk for many years. One of her passions was dancing. As a young woman she spent many weekends dancing to the big bands of the 1940s.
She and her husband spent much of their free time traveling around the world. They especially enjoyed their early trips to Las Vegas. They spent many weekends entertaining their family and friends.
Josephine was a woman of kindness and generosity. She welcomed everyone with a smile and an open heart. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Salvatore Sabia; two daughters, Diane DiGiacomo & her husband Anthony and Linda Parent & her husband Michael; three grandchildren, Anthony DiGiacomo, Jr. & his wife Jamie, Lisa Mallozzi & her husband Pasquale and Kristin Schiering & her husband Robert; and three great-grandchildren Grace Anne DiGiacomo and Alexander & Ava Mallozzi.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother Louis Iorio; and two sisters, Loretta Pinto and Mary Cosentino.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road. Interment will follow at St. Johns RC Cemetery, Darien. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Building, Memphis, TN, 38105. Arrangements are being handled by the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford. www.cognetta.com
