Joyce Minyo, 86, of Monroe, CT formerly of Pound Ridge, NY, mother of Joyce Orgera of Townshend, VT passed away peacefully with her family at her side on December 8,2011 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield, CT where she was a resident for the past year. She was the widow of Joseph Minyo, Jr. and the daughter of Mildred Wienski Cheney Kramer and William Cheney.
She was born on February 7, 1925 in Newark, NJ. She was a longtime resident of Stamford where she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Kazimer and Antonia Wienski. She graduated from Stamford High School and attended Danbury State Teacher’s College.
She married Joseph Minyo, Jr. in 1945. She enjoyed working as a personal secretary to the manager of the Unemployment Office in Stamford for many years and then as a statistical secretary for the Stamford Rehabilitation Center where she retired from.
Joyce was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Bedford Village, NY where she was active in the Women’s Guild. She had a natural talent for playing the piano and organ by ear, and played throughout her life. She enjoyed painting and sculpture and gave many of her pieces as gifts, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer Krawczuk, DDS, of Jupiter, FL, Walter Orgera of Danbury, CT and Meredith O’Keefe of Haverhill, MA. Joyce is also survived by six great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in celebration of her life at the Holy Name of Jesus Church, 4 Pulaski Street, Stamford, CT on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien.
