June C. Petersen, 77 of Stamford, passed away after a long four year battle with cancer on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Stamford Hospital. Having a very strong will to live, she fought a brave and courageous fight. Now that June is gone, may she rest in peace.

Born on July 24, 1933 in Scotland, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Clayton Wilson. Though she was raised in Scotland, she spent some time in England before coming to the U.S.A. with her sister Lilian. Though she fell in love with her new home in America, she still had a deep love for her homeland of Scotland.

June worked for 24 years as an Administrative Assistant for Union Trust Bank before retiring in 1987.

June was a wonderful, kind person who loved people as well as animals and life in general. She also enjoyed reading a good book, picnicking on weekends and loving and caring for the many kitty cats she had over the years.

June took a special interest in ballroom dancing, of which she was very good at. At a dance, she met her future husband, Bob, whom she discovered to share her passion in dancing, and together made a great team. Dancing got them together, and eventually they were married.

In addition to her husband, Robert R. Petersen of Stamford, she is survived by her three sisters, Audrey Jackson and Sheila Francis, both of England and Lilian Taylor of Florida and her brother, James Wilson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 7:00PM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902, with Rev. James K. Mahan officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, September 3, 2010 from 2:00-4:00PM and from 6:00-8:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in June’s honor to the Carl & Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center, 34 Shelburne Road, Stamford, CT 06904.

The beloved husband of June would like to thank the Carl & Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center for the professional and caring treatment of June. Their staff is the greatest.
