Justina Simmel

Justina Lavinia Simmel, 97, passed away at Stamford Hospital on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 of natural causes. Born April 5, 1912, in Gravesend, Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Otto J. and Mary C. Van Sicklen Ryder. Mrs. Simmel was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a long time resident of Stamford.
She was a devoted wife of 66 years to Albert Conrad Simmel, and mother of 11. She is survived by six daughters; Justina McDermott, Alice Simmel and Marguerite Maturo, all of Norwalk, Madeline Rolandelli of Whippany, NJ, Suzanne Prutting of Stratford and Laura Monks of Bridgeport, four sons; Ryder Simmel and Albert Simmel Jr. both of Stamford, Robert Simmel and James Simmel, both of Trumbull, 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Peter Simmel, a brother Joseph Ryder and a sister Alice M. Barry.
A funeral procession will be leaving Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 9:45 AM arriving at St. Mary RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John RC Cemetery, Darien. Friends may call at the Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, January 15 from 4:00 �" 8:00 PM.
