Katherine (Katie) Mazzola Gorman went to her eternal home on November 22, 2025 in Fort Myers, Florida, at the incredible age of 105. She was born on October 20, 1920 in Mount Kisco, New York to the late John and Veronica (Lena) Mazzola.
Her parents always stressed the importance of education, and, as a result, Katie earned a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania and a Masters in Education from Columbia University in New York City.
Katie passionately taught for 40 years in the Stamford, Connecticut school system as a Physical Education Teacher and Guidance Counselor. She touched the lives of many students throughout her career.
She married James Gorman in Stamford, Connecticut in 1949. They had two children, Patricia (Patty) and James (Jim). Katie was the daughter of Italian immigrants, and James the son of Irish immigrants, so she learned how to cook Irish food. Every year, she would make Irish Soda Bread for Saint Patrick' s Day and distribute over 100 loaves to her friends and family.
Katie and James retired to Bonita Springs, Florida in 1995 and lived at Worthington Country Club. She played golf and was an active card player. Being a former physical education teacher, she enjoyed watching all sports and never missed a tennis or golf match on TV. She was known by friends and family as an exuberant, independent, and caring woman.
Starting on her 90th birthday, Katie threw big birthday celebrations every year with a full house. On her 100th birthday, due to Covid restrictions, a birthday party was out of the question. Instead, however, an outside parade was put on in her honor and attended by many. She deeply loved everyone and was loved by everyone!
Katie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Gorman; sister, RaeTurturro; and daughter, Patricia Gorman.
Her memory lives on with her brothers, Joe Mazzola and Frank Mazzola; sister-in-law, Dee Mazzola; son, James Gorman and wife, Dana Gorman; grandson, Cole Gorman and wife, Ashley Gorman; granddaughter, Alyssa Gorman; and two great grandchildren, Charleston and Raleigh Gorman.
Katie will be remembered and honored by friends and family on Friday, December 5, 2025. There will be a private family burial followed by a 10 o’clock mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Stamford, 1220 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, Connecticut.
