Kathleen “Kate” Taylor, 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at her residence in Wilton Meadows Health Care Center in Wilton, Connecticut. She was born on October 26, l921 to the late Alice MacMillian and Charles Edward Taylor in Putney, a suburb of London. Prior to World War II, she worked in the C.I.D. Office of the Hammersmith Police Station. During the war, she served as a civilian air-raid warden, spending many harrowing nights helping to escort British subjects to underground bomb shelters around the city.
While visiting the seaside town of Bournemouth during the war, Kate met the love of her life, a handsome Polish Army officer named Kazimierz Siezieniewicz (“Kazik”), whom she later married. After the war, Kate and Kazik moved to Argentina to pursue business opportunities, later returning briefly to England before emigrating to the United States. Here they changed their surname to Taylor, with Kazik adopting the Anglicized name, Mark.
During her career in the States, Kate worked at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Stamford, then at several local physicians’ offices. She was deeply religious, having lived in a convent for well over a decade, even having had a private audience in the Vatican with Pope John Paul II.
Kate’s wry British sense of humor was exceeded only by her love of animals, especially her dogs and cats, cherishing all of them over the years until she was finally too old to do so anymore.
Kate was devastated by the untimely death of Kazik at age 62 in 1976. She was also predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Elliott, and two brothers, David and Leslie Taylor. She is survived by three sons: T. Mark Taylor (Pam) of Ridgefield, Robert P. Taylor of Darien, and Anthony C. Taylor of Danbury. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Anthony C. Taylor Jr. (Megan), Angela, and Alana.
Services were private.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Wilton Meadows, and to especially thank Kate’s dearest friend, Martina Doshan, for the many hours of selfless support she provided to Kate in her final years.
Donations in Kate’s memory can be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
