Rev. Kevin P. Fitzpatrick S.T.D., 52, died Sunday, July 20, trying to recover from surgery. Father Fitzpatrick was born in Stamford, CT on August 23, 1955.
Father Fitzpatrick was the pastor of Holy Cross Church in Fairfield since 2003. Through his 25 years as a priest his service to the church brought him to serve at Assumption Parish in Westport, Saint Pius X Parish in Fairfield, Saint Mary Parish in Stamford, Saint John the Evangelist Parish in Stamford and Saint Theresa Parish in Trumbull.
A graduate of Fairfield University, Father Fitzpatrick completed his seminary studies at Theological College of the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
He was ordained a priest in 1983. In 1995, Father Fitzpatrick was awarded a doctorate in moral theology (S.T.D.) from The Academy of Saint Alphonsus of the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.
He was a first priest member of The Saint Gregory Society and served for many years on the Executive Board. He was a member of The Ancient Order Hibernians in America. He was a staunch Republican, an avid reader, had a great love of travel, enjoyed many of his treasured friendships throughout his life. He will be greatly missed.
Father Fitzpatrick is predeceased by his father Paul Fitzpatrick. He is survived by his mother, Eileen Fitzpatrick of Stamford; his sister, Siobhan and husband Mark Sawyer of Bow, New Hampshire; his brother, Sean Fitzpatrick of Norwich; and his brother, Paul and wife Darlene of Stamford; and four nieces.
A wake will be held at Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, on Wednesday, July 23 from 4:00 8:00 PM.
The body will be received at Holy Cross RC Church, 750 Tahmore Drive, Fairfield, on Thursday, July 24 at 4:00 PM. Calling hours will then be held from 4:00 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:00 PM with the Bishop William E. Lori as the principal celebrant. A Solemn Requiem Mass will be held on Friday, July 25 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist RC Church, 279 Atlantic Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. Johns RC Cemetery in Darien.
