Klara Josefine Sarawara, 83, died peacefully at Stamford Hospital on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 23, 1923 in Biene-Lingen, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Maria Geers Foppe.
She came to the United States with her late husband, George F. Sarawara in 1954, and settled in Stamford, CT. She worked as a cook for over 20 years at The Sittin Room and for several years at the Deli Club, both located in Stamford.
She is survived by her daughter, Madlyn Colandro and her husband Anthony of Stamford; two sisters, Paula Gazda of Ocala, FL; and Rosa Espelmann-Wolf of Germany; and three granddaughters, who were the center of her world, Kelley, Valerie, and Toni Colandro, all of Stamford.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Paul Foppe; and three sisters, Anne Foppe; Josefine Foppe; and Mia Janning, all of Germany.
She will be remembered for her unconditional love, kindness and generosity.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday, February 8, 2007 from 4:00 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 9:20 AM and proceed to St. Gabriel RC Church, 914 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM.
