Laura Potenza Wardwell, 87, of Shelton, and a former resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Griffin Hospital. She was born in Stamford on November 10, 1928 to the late Joseph and Angelina Sclafani Malteso.
Laura loved cooking, especially Italian cuisine, enjoyed the beach and sailing, and was fond of shopping. She worked at Baldwin Technology Company for many years and still enjoyed friends that she met during her time there. She adored her family and friends and loved to be in their company. Recently, she enjoyed being part of the community at Crosby Commons.
She is survived by her loving sons Samuel Potenza, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Shelton, Robert Potenza and his wife Susan of Dunwoody, GA, a sister Fannie Portanova, as well as five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephen, Jonathan, Robert, and Jeffrey and his wife, Cassie, and one great grandchild, Anthony.
Besides her parents, Laura was predeceased by her husbands, Samuel Potenza, Sr. and Robert Wardwell and her sisters, Rose Faillace and Lena Lombardo.
She is also survived by Robert Wardwell’s children, Roddy Wardwell and Pamela Broiles and her step grandchildren, Michael and Noah.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, following with a prayer service. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien.
