Leonard Pensiero, a longtime resident of Stamford, CT, and a beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 16, 2023 with his loving family at his side. Len was born in Minturno, Italy, in November of 1931, and was the son of the late Ralph Pensiero and Angelina Persechino Pensiero.
Affectionately known to family and friends as “Leo” or “Len”, he attended Stamford Public Schools, the
University of Connecticut and the New York Institute of Credit. He proudly served in the United States Army. He spent his early years working at Fawcett Publications in Greenwich and retired after 20 years from Baldwin Technology Corporation as Corporate Credit Manager.
He had a love of traveling, adventure, reading, and creating stained glass artwork. He valued time spent with friends both old and new, especially the Crane Road Cronies and his coffee buddies. He enjoyed every minute he spent with his two grandchildren either in person, on the phone or while FaceTiming with them. He
was an active member of the Stamford Senior Men’s Association and devoted his retirement years to his family and to volunteering for the Stamford Health System, the VNA Hospice and the Stamford Soup Kitchen. In 2010 he and his wife Judy were awarded the Stamford Outstanding Volunteer Couple Award and in 2016 he was awarded the Saint Augustine Medal of Service for his work in the community.
Leonard is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Judith (Judy) Currivan Pensiero, and survived by his two loving daughters and son-in-law, Lora Pensiero of Ridgefield, CT and Susan Pensiero Murphy and Keith
John Murphy of Simsbury, CT and two cherished grandchildren, Devon Rose Murphy and Conor John (C.J.) Murphy of Simsbury, CT.
Leonard is also predeceased by his brother Ralph Pensiero and in-laws Barbara Pensiero, Maureen Currivan Marino and Frank Marino, and leaves behind many caring nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 5pm to 8pm, with a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, April 22nd at 10:30am at St. Cecilia R.C. Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. The inurnment will follow mass at St. John R.C. Cemetery in Darien.
The family would like to thank the Stamford Health Cardiology Group for their dedicated care and support. In lieu of flowers the family respectively suggests a memorial donation to the hospice residence, Fairfield
