Lorraine �"Birnie Benevelli, a long-time Stamford resident died on Sunday October 22, 2006 in Lawrenceville, GA. She was 80.
Born February 4, 1926 in Manchester CT, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Heffron Birnie.
Mrs Benevelli graduated from Manchester High School in 1943 and moved to Stamford in 1944. She enrolled in Stamford Hospital's School of Nursing as a member of the Cadet Nurses Corp and graduated in 1947. She received a BS in Professional Arts from St. Joseph's College, North Windham, ME in 1982.
Mrs. Benevelli worked as an RN in private duty assignments and geriatric facilities in Stamford. She retired as a nursing supervisor from Stamford's Smith House in 1988 and continued providing part time nursing care until relocating to Florida in 2001.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 53 years Albert Benevelli; her sister Lillian Farrand and brother Charles Birnie.
She is survived by three sons and their families: David and Joanne Benevelli of Duluth, GA; Bill and Becky Benevelli of Marlboro, MA; and Tim and Peg Benevelli of Killingworth. She is also survived by a niece, Lucille McCoy of Barstow, CA and a nephew Leonard Farrand of Hartford. She also has six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 3-7 PM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Av, Stamford on Thursday, October 26, 2006.
A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:20 AM on Friday, October 27, 2006 and proceed to Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Ave, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM. Interment will follow at a later date.
