Louis M. Clapes, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Stamford Hospital. Born on September 30, 1911 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Michael and Margaret Sabia Clapes.

He was a self-employed welding contractor for over fifty years, and was sub-contracted with Northeast Utilities for thirty five years, and retiring in 1977. He was a graduate of the Class of 1936 of the New York Engineering and Welding School in New York City. Louis was also in business with his father, who owned the first car dealership in Stamford in 1917 called Star Garage on West Main Street. He was also a member of St. Leo’s Parish. He was devoted to his family, gardening and his business. He always said his business �"gave him a sense of purpose”, and would donate his services, on any occasion, if requested.

He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Intrieri and her husband Michael of East Norwalk; and Erdine Skolnick and her husband Richard of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren, Michael J. Intrieri of Stamford; Jason A. Intrieri of East Norwalk; Ali Garrison of San Francisco, CA; and Marci Skolnick of NYC; three great grandchildren all of CA; and four sisters, Katherine and Antoinette Sessa of Stamford; Elizabeth Clapes of Stamford; and Batiste Giuliani of Milford.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Frances Anderson Clapes; and two sisters, Ana Clapes and Angelina Lovallo.

A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, at 10:20 AM on Monday, September 25, 2006 and proceed to St. Leo Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will then follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, September 24 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. www.cognetta.com
