Louis John Ferrero, 80, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Thursday, June 12, 2008. Born on September 17, 1927, he was the son of the late Joseph and Theresa Umile Ferrero.
Louis worked as a pressman for the Stamford Advocate/Greenwich Times for 40 years before his retirement in 1993. He was a graduate of Stamford High School Class of 1945. He played varsity baseball and basketball in 1944 and 1945. In 1944 and 1945 he pitched no hit, no run games for Stamford High Schools baseball team and the 1945 baseball team was undefeated. In December 2001, he was honored by the Stamford Old Timers Athletic Association. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Marys RC Church.
Louis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marion Martley Ferrero; a daughter, Eileen A. Ferrero of Stamford; 2 sons, Daniel J. and his wife Barbara Ferrero of Lithia, FL and Joseph L. and his wife Jean Ferrero of Stamford; a sister, Marianna Amato of Ridgefield; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vincent J. and Marjorie LoBuglio; 4 grandchildren, Ryan, Alexander, Joseph and Jessica Ferrero; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Albert Ferrero.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, at 9:40 AM, where a Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Marys RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, on Saturday, June 14 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Darien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, June 13 from 4-8 PM.
