Louis Gunzy, age 83, of Stamford, CT died Jan. 16, 2009 surrounded by family at the home of his daughter, Sally. He was born on August 3, 1925 in North Argyle, NY and grew up in South Norwalk. After his marriage in 1951 to his beloved wife, Janet (Rosa), who predeceased him, he resided in Stamford. He was also predeceased in death by a grandson, Matthew Memale.
He worked as a controller and retired after 47 years from Klaffs Inc, Norwalk. He graduated from Bryant College in RI with a BS in Business Administration and served very proudly in the Marine Corp. as a Staff Sgt. 4th Air Wing in WWII. He was a handsome, very youthful looking, loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and great uncle and will be extremely missed by all. He was known to all as Lou, except for his siblings, who nicknamed him �"Chug. Lou had a sparkling sense of humor and laughter was always present when he was around. He enjoyed watching T.V. and movies, collecting pens (and a few other things), loved horses and eating vanilla ice cream. His favorite thing to do was going out to eat but the most important past time for Lou was spending time with his family. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church.
He is survived by his dedicated children, Jo-Ann (Gary) Memale and Cheryl (Hugh) Winters of Stamford; Sally Gunzy (Peter Kennedy) of Southington, CT and Richard (Brenda) Gunzy of Oak Forest, IL; his grandchildren, Alexandra and Nicole Memale of Stamford; Jason Gunzy and Jennifer Dufour of Fond du Lac, WI; his siblings, Hazel Samodel, John Gunzy, Carol Gunzy and Joyce Amon and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave, Stamford, CT.
A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, and proceed to Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church, 1200 Shippan Ave., Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Darien.
