Lucy Sacco Loglisci, 97 of Stamford, passed away peacefully at St. Camillus Health Care Center with her family by her side on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Born on September 15, 1912 in Gravina di Puglia, Italy, she was the daughter of the late John and Maria Colavita Sacco.
Lucy was a well known Stamford restaurateur, getting her start at the Starlight Drive-in where she worked from 1951-1955, introducing a whole generation to her ethnic pizza. From there, she started Lucy’s Diner on Prospect Street, from 1955-1970, which grew with Stamford into a restaurant and lounge known as JR’s from 1970 until 1988, where Lucy was found with the likes of Henry Fonda and Joe DiMaggio. The restaurants were her first home, as her specialties included her homemade pasta. Besides cooking for her patrons, her greatest love was preparing and sharing a meal with her family, where she would always have music to which she herself would sing. She was honored by the Boy’s Town of Italy as Woman of the Year and spent hours knitting for the ARI of Stamford for the children that they served.
Lucy is survived by her three sons, Ralph Loglisci and his wife Heather of Boca Raton, FL, John Loglisci and his wife Marilynn of Stamford, Anthony Loglisci and his wife Carol of Stamford; her daughter, Annette Cortese and her husband Vinnie of Stamford; three sisters, Rose Cognetta, Grace Loglisci and Frances DeCarlo, all of Stamford. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews that loved her like a second mother.
In addition to her parents, Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Louis L. Loglisci, two sisters, Anna Mercede, Tessie Sacco and two brothers, Anthony and Joseph Sacco.
