Madeline Sabia, 67 of Stamford, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 23, 2010 after a long courageous battle with Inclusion Body Myositis. Born on February 15, 1943 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Carmine and Anna Laddaga Coniglio.
Madeline was best known as the owner of the Card Coop in Newfield Green from 1975-1994. She was one of the founders of the Myositis Association as well as serving on the Board of Directors. Madeline was also a teacher at the Italian Center Nursery School from 1972-1974. An avid reader, she also enjoyed baking, traveling, and entertaining, especially for the holidays.
Madeline is survived by her husband, James “Jim” Sabia of Stamford; her daughters, Bernadette Sabia and her daughter Breeana of Ft. Myers, Florida, Suzanne Santrock, her husband Jim and their son, Kyle all of Norwalk, and Mary Ellen Stokes, her husband Pete and their children, Alexis Melfi, Jack, Olivia and Rachel Stokes, all of Stamford; her brother, John Coniglio and his wife Vinnie of Stamford; her sister, Camille Coniglio of Stamford; sisters in law, Vita Carlson and Mary Scalise, both of Stamford. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and her caregiver of over ten years, Debbie Honnen.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 at 10:50 on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12:00PM at St. Thomas More RC Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien, CT. Interment will follow at St. John RC Cemetery, Darien, CT. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, July 26, 2010 from 4:00-8:00PM.
