Madelyn “Mitzi” Chambers, 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 15, 2014 at Stamford Hospital with her loving family by her side. Mitzi was born in Stamford on October 3, 1944 to the late Gaetano “Gates” and Catherine Charton Tovino.
Mitzi was a lifelong resident of Stamford, having graduated from Wright Technical School, Class of 1962. Mitzi was a kind, gentle soul with a loving and generous heart. She had a unique way of making everyone that came into her life feel special.
Mitzi is survived by her loving and devoted husband, soul mate and best friend of over fifty years, Frank J. Chambers Sr. with whom she shared a special bond, her children, Frank J. Chambers Jr. and his wife Lisa and their children Julia, Megan, Leo and Eddie; Cathy-Lu Ortega and her husband Kevin and their children Jessica and Ryan; Kelly Pavia and her husband Paul and their children Kayla and Jake; Michael Chambers and his wife Kathy and their children Logan and Lucas. Also surviving are her sister Kathy DelCarmine, brother-in-law Larry Antonelli, sisters-in-law Claire Chambers, Lucille Kurtzakowski and her husband Bob, Vera Tovino and Ann Charton, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved as if they were her own.
Besides her parents, Mitzi is predeceased by her brothers Guy Tovino and Lou Charton, her sisters, Gail Somers, Michele “Shelly” Antonelli and Margo Mancuso, her sister-in-law Janice Isentol, brother-in-law Tony DelCarmine and her namesake Madelyn “Mamen” Gerak and her husband Mickey.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Monday July 21, 2014 at 9:40AM and proceed to St. Gabriel’s RC Church, 914 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford, CT. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday July 20, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00PM.
