Maria Galella
August 18, 1927 — January 26, 2017
Maria G. Galella, 89, of FL and a former resident of Greenwich, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 26, 2017. She was born on August 18, 1927 in Morcone, Italy to the late Pellegrino and Linda Della Camera Valente.
Maria was a substitute Teacher for the Greenwich and Stamford School Systems for many years. She taught Italian to the seniors at the Villa Borghese Italian Club in Delray Beach, FL, where she was a member and was also a member of the Rosary Guild at St. Emanuel Church in Delray Beach, FL. Maria was a former member of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society of Stamford and was a member of the Dancing Club in Greenwich for many years.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Joy Goldowsky and her husband Joel of Fairfield, CT and her son Michael Galella and his wife Judy of Michigan. As well as her sister Giuseppina Cimbalo of Italy. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Alexander, Daniel and Jonathan Goldowsky and Jake Galella.
Besides her parents, Maria was predeceased by her husband Michael J. Galella and a sister Sina Valente.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford at 10:30 AM. Entombment will be private. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the Galella family with the arrangements.
