Maria Teresa Pagano
November 20, 1914 — July 4, 2008
Maria Teresa Pagano, 93, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family. Her parents, the late Pasquale Pagano and Maria Vartuli immigrated to Caconde, Brazil where Maria was born on November 20, 1914. Her family returned to Italy where she was raised. She was married to Pietro Pagano on October 11, 1939 in Arena, Italy. During WWII, she committed herself to helping many families devastated by the war.
Maria and Pietro, with their children, emigrated from Italy to Stamford in February 1955; where she was employed as a seamstress. After their retirement, they moved to Wilton in 1976. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1989. Maria was a loving mother and dedicated her life to her family.
She is survived by her four children, Maria Zaccone and her husband, Orlando, of Wilton; Dominick Pagano and his wife, Betty Jane, of Weston; Pasquale Pagano of Wilton; and Michael Pagano and his wife, Louise, of Redding. Eight grandchildren, Joseph and his wife Teresa Zaccone; Gianpiero and his wife Leanne Zaccone; M. Danielle and her husband Stephen Jones; Francesca and her husband W. Scott Hunt; Peter and his wife Amanda Pagano; Anthony, Alexandra and Michael Pagano; and nine great grandchildren and many other relatives also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Pietro Pagano in July of 1994; her sister, Margherita; and stepsister, Raffaela.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Monday, July 7 from 4:00 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 8:45 AM on Tuesday, July 8 and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery Mausoleum in Darien.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions are made to Mid Fairfield Hospice, P.O. Box 489, Wilton, CT 06897.
