Marian Walker LeGros, longtime Stamford resident, died August 9, 2008 surrounded by her immediate family.
She was born October 15, 1922 in Oak Park, IL, the daughter of late Lester R. and Henrietta Graves Walker. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from DePauw University in 1944. At DePauw, she served as president of her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. During World War II she served with the Red Cross, processing military records in Galveston, TX. Following the war, she returned to Illinois and married Emile A. LeGros in 1949.
Marian moved to Stamford with her family in 1962, where she was an active member of the community. For more than twenty years she placed substitute teachers in all of Stamfords elementary schools. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, a dedicated alumna of Kappa Kappa Gamma and a part of the Fairfield County Tres Dias Community.
She is predeceased by her husband, Emile A. LeGros of Stamford, and her sister, Jean Wheat of IL.
Marian is survived by her daughters, Jean S. LeGros of Gettysburg, PA and Margaret LeGros Doody of Stamford, son-in-law Bill Doody and granddaughter Emma Doody, both also of Stamford, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 15 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT. Visiting hours will be Thursday, August 14 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave. Stamford, CT. Interment will be private.
