Marie Joan Destefano
November 5, 1922 — April 3, 2015
Marie Joan DeStefano died peacefully in Stamford on April 3, 2015. She was born in Stamford on November 5, 1922 where she attended school, graduating with the Stamford High School class of 1940.
A few years later in 1943, she proudly enlisted in the US Navy WAVE boot camp in Norman, OK going on to serve her country bravely in WWII. Upon her return to civilian live, Marie returned to Stamford and worked with the Stamford police department as an auxiliary Sgt. She then went on with careers at CBS Labs and Machlett Labs in Stamford. Marie, or Dusty as she was affectionately known, was an avid traveler, an amateur pilot, patriot, sportswoman and a fine humanitarian.
She is survived by three nieces, Robin Russo (John), Tammy Montanaro (Paul) of Stamford and Darcy DiStefano of Madison Wisconsin and a nephew John DiStefano (Tina) of Bethel CT.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Adam DiStefano and Marion Caroline Cirrito and her brothers Fred and John DiStefano of Stamford.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Tuesday April 7, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00PM. A graveside service will take place on Wednesday April 8, 2015 at 10:00AM at ST. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
