Marie “Dolly” Sarni, 87, of Trumbull and a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 12, 2014. She was born in Stamford on August 18, 1927 to the late Anthony and Concetta Candelmo Rich,Sr.
Marie first worked at Philip’s ( Milk of Magnesia) as an assembler in 1948 where she met her future husband of 65 years, Mike, marrying in 1950. Dolly was the bookkeeper for Toyota and Chrysler of Stamford in the Parts Department in the 1970’s, she then moved on and became the head cook for KT Murphy School. She then went on to become the secretary and “right hand man” for Father John Philip, Msgr. Peter Dora and Father Vincent Veich, all Pastors of St. Benedict’s RC Church of Stamford from 1980-1992 besides being very involved with the Church’s Senior’s Activities. Marie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, as made apparent during her final years of devotion as a tireless caregiver to her husband Mike.
She is survived by her devoted husband Michael P. Sarni, Sr., her loving children, Michael P. Sarni, Jr.and his wife Millie of Orange, CT and Michele Vitanza-Berlingo and her husband Mark of Stamford, her loving grandchildren, Michael N. Sarni of Shelton, CT Victoria M. Vitanza and Michael R. Berlingo both of Stamford, four sisters Gloria Lanzaro, Theresa Carlucci, Nancy Costanzo and Jeanne Zurzola , three brothers, Joseph, Albert and William Rich. Many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her son in law Timothy E. Vitanza, a sister Eileen Scarella, two brothers, Alfonse and Anthony Rich, Jr. and her goddaughter Suzanne Rocca.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 9:50 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 PM.
