Marilyn E. Perniciaro, 81, formerly of Stamford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at her home in Orange. She was born in Darien on February 9, 1934 to the late William and Florence Young. She was a graduate of Darien High School in 1951 and Mount Sinai School of Nursing in New York in 1954.

Marilyn was a registered nurse. She worked as a surgical nurse for many years and then was a private duty nurse after her children were born. Her life was characterized by selfless acts of love, not only as a nurse, but also as a wife, mother, and friend. Despite her significant health challenges from rheumatoid arthritis, Marilyn had a deep love for God and was devoted to her family and friends. She impacted many lives with her faith, encouragement, and compassion and was an inspiration to many. At the age of 81, she was elected President of the Resident’s Association at Maplewood of Orange.

Marilyn was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Andrew J. Perniciaro, and she was survived by her six loving children, Andrew J. Perniciaro, Jr. of Stamford; Sharon Baio, and her husband, Jim, of Farmington, Connecticut; Patricia R. Beauregard, of Trumbull, Connecticut; Virginia L. Wilk and her husband, Steve, of Redding, Connecticut; Marilyn M. Perniciaro of Chennai, India; and Josephine S. Cushman, and her husband, Mark, of Silver Spring, Maryland. She was also survived by eleven grandchildren, two great-grandsons, her sister, Beverly Sgritta of Stamford, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Richard Young.

The funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford at 9:30 A.M on Friday, October 23, 2015 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 A.M at St. John’s RC Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 PM with a memorial celebration of her life from 7:00-8:00 PM.
