Marion Allison Mearin died at Stamford Hospital on April 19, 2009, at the age of 88. Born in Washington, D.C., Marion was the daughter of the late William L. Allison, an Army Officer, and Hazel Belle Allison.
She grew up in New Jersey, graduated from Battin High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Panzer College, East Orange, NJ. Marion was the wife of Donald P. Mearion, a decorated veteran of WWII. Donald served in France and received a Purple Heart, Silver Star and a Bronze Star for bravery.
Whether she was teaching high school, dancing professionally, modeling or designing interiors, she was passionate about her work. As a talented artist, she felt that “creating a piece in any medium is a personal reward. The satisfaction of beginning with a ‘lump of clay’, a blank piece of paper and some watercolors, or even a hunk of stone, and ending with an artistic image is the ultimate triumph!”
In 1970, Marion joined the American Cyanamid Company, working in the New York City and Wayne, NJ offices as the corporate Interior Designer. After her retirement in 1985, she remained a consultant for the company and helped countless friends and churches solve their design and architectural problems. With a close friend, Grace Catalano, who worked at the Stamford facility, she purchased a home on a stunningly beautiful stream-lined property which they’ve enjoyed for 24 years.
Marion is survived by her brother, Col. (ret.) William B. Allison; a nephew, William “Sandy” Allison; and a niece, Deborah Allison Cline.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 430 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, on Wednesday, May 27 at 10:00 AM.
