Mary Ann Anderson, 76, of Stamford passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Stamford Hospital. Born on July 12, 1938, she was the youngest of six children to the late Salvatore and Pasqualina DeRosa.
A lifelong Stamford resident, Mary Ann graduated from Stamford High School in 1956, after which she was employed as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She became a homemaker and she and her late husband moved to Darien to raise their children. Long after the passing of her husband and the children had grown, she returned to reside in Stamford decades later. Mary Ann was a faithful member of St. Maurice Church where she started a prayer shawl committee for the sick. She was the first female altar server and became in charge of training all new future altar servers. She was a faith formation teacher having taught the First Communion classes as well as teaching religious education for grades 2, 4 and 6. She also donated her time sewing and mending altar cloths and cloth covers for lectionaries, making table arrangements for church functions as well as patching and painting the statues for the manger every year for Christmas before setting them up. Mary Ann spent hours refurbishing all of the Stations of the Cross throughout the church. An achievement she was proud of was a picture she painted that was dedicated and given to Bishop Lori. She also crowned the Virgin Mary during May with a crown handmade by herself from flowers. Mary Ann had a passion for arts & crafts as displayed throughout her home or in the homes of loved ones and friends she would often give away to on special occasions or even just as a “pick-me-up” for someone feeling down. Mary Ann loved hosting dinner parties on Monday evenings for her friends before they would watch “Dancing with the Stars”. She enjoyed spur-of-the-moment lunches at new restaurants with family and friends. Each spring, Mary Ann looked forward to planting her gardens and hosting summertime cook-outs in her backyard for her children and grandchildren’s special occasions.
Mary Ann is survived by her three sons, Christopher M. Anderson (C.J.) of Florida, Jerome E. Anderson, II (Maura) and John H. Anderson both from Stamford and her daughter Patricia L. Anderson also of Stamford. She is also survived by her three grandsons, Andrew William Anderson, Jerome Eckert Anderson, III and Sean Thomas Anderson all of Stamford. Mary Ann is also survived by her sister, Gloria DeRosa Saverine of Darien and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband, Jerome E. Anderson; one brother, Anthony DeRosa and her three sisters, Christine Camerota, Jiovina Lorenti and Evelyn Loiacano.
