Mary Jacobellis, 86, of Stamford, died on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006 at Greenwich Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born in Ripley, Maine on Sept. 28, 1919 to the late Ralph and Annie Libby.

Mary graduated from the Norwalk Hospital Nursing Program to earn her R.N. certification in 1947. She worked at Stamford Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital before formally retiring in 1982 from duties as a delivery room nurse. She continued to provide assistance as a part-time nurse at the Greenwich Laurelton Nursing facility until 1998. Mary was also an avid reader and true Brooklyn Dodgers fan and later a Mets fan.

Mary is survived by her children, twins, Janet Awlasewicz of Darien, CT; and John Jacobellis of Stamford, CT; a son, Lawrence Jacobellis of Danbury, CT. She also leaves six grandchildren, Frank Jacobellis; Jennifer Klemm; Janet Jacobellis; Steven Awlasewicz; Andrew Awlasewicz; and Michael Awlasewicz; her sister, Dorothy Beckett of Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews in Connecticut, Maine and New Hampshire.

In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her first husband Raymond Cahill, who was killed in action during World War II; and by her second husband, Frank Jacobellis, who passed on in 1965. She was also pre-deceased by her twin sister, Elizabeth Lahaie; sister, Reba Folsom; and two brothers, Leland Libby and Ellison Libby.

Friends and family may call on September 29, 2006 at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 PM.

A service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Stamford.
