Mary Katherine Malvase (Kitty), a long-term Stamford resident and beloved partner, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at Norwalk Hospital on the evening of Tuesday April 21, 2026. Mary was born in Indianapolis, IN on August 15, 1949, to the late Max and Barbara (Scott) Malvase. She was 76 years old at the time of her passing.

Known to all as Kitty, she spent her childhood in Indiana, then moved to New Rochelle, NY where she graduated from Eastchester Senior High School. Kitty was famous for her patronage of Dudley’s and had a degree in “Woodstock” and “the power of the flower!” Kitty worked for many years in the moving industry mainly as a coordinator for several companies before retiring from Bollinger’s. Kitty was known for her sense of humor, her love of the 60’s & 70’s, wind chimes, blue glass and great music!

Kitty is survived by her sister Julie Malvase Randall and two nieces Anna Segal and husband Randy Whipp and Elizabeth (Beth) Randall. All in Seattle, Washington and adored by Kitty! Kitty is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Purdy. Even though there were many miles between them and traveling was no longer possible, Kitty and Julie Facebooked and messaged each other daily.

Kitty and Barry Stunkel were life partners for over 39 years and finally settled down in Stamford’s Cove area. Barry was the love of her life. Kitty is also survived by Barry’s mother, Sylvia Stunkel, and his family Bruce & Janet Stunkel; Brian Stunkel; Sally & Bob Kyker; Bonnie & Brien Adams; as well as Barry’s nieces and nephews. Kitty also leaves behind several very good friends and neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Kitty was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother (and childhood caregiver) Mrs. Mary Smith Scott, her brother Guy Philipe (Bud) Malvase and her brother-in-law Gale Randall and Fred Stunkel. Kitty will be missed by her family, friends and neighbors as well as UPS, Amazon and a variety of “take-out” dinner restaurants!

Visitation will take place at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., in Stamford on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, from 3pm till 6:00pm. Interment will be private and at a later date.
