Mary (Vinnie) McCauley passed away at Bethel Health Care in Bethel, CT on Monday, May18, 2015.
Vinnie was born on May 22, 1924 in Stamford, CT to Samuel and “Jennie” Troncone.
Vinnie attended St John’s school and graduated from Stamford High School in 1943. She was a very active community member in Stamford. She was an integral part of St. Maurice’s church in Glenbrook, a member of the Democratic Women’s Club as well as a member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary committee. Her greatest achievement after working for the City of Stamford in numerous capacities was to become Registrar of Voters for 27 years; an elected position she held until her retirement in 1990. Simultaneously she was a member of the Soroptomist Club and the Registrars Association in the State of CT.
She leaves two loving children. A daughter Joanne Torpey wife of Mark Torpey of Bethel, CT. and a son John McCauley and his wife Paula of Dallas, Texas. She was also a proud “Grammy” to five grandchildren; Matthew, Seth, and Dennis Torpey as well as Sean and Erin McCauley. She also had the good fortune in life to have nine great grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews who called her “Aunt Vin.” She is also survived by her two sisters Esther Thomas of Stamford, CT and Madelyn Bradford of St. Petersburg, FL.
Besides her parents Mary is predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, John McCauley. She was one of six siblings, Carmine, Madelyn, Alphonso, Esther and Samuel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday May 22, 2015 at St Maurice’s Roman Catholic Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery Mausoleum, Darien. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the McCauley family with the arrangements.
