Mary Veronica McRedmond - passed away peacefully on April 26, 2007 with her loving family by her side. Mary was born in Stamford to the late Bridget and Joseph Nemchek. She was the fourth of nine children in a close-knit Slovak family. She attended Stamford schools and resided in the Cove section of Stamford her entire life. Mary was the loving wife of Charles R. McRedmond, former Chief of the Stamford Fire Department, who predeceased her in 1974.
Mary was a gentle and caring person who will be sorely missed by all her family and friends. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and involved in their lives. She was an avid UConn basketball fan, but she was the ultimate fan of her own children and grandchildren in any and all of their activities. She loved to laugh and will be remembered for her beautiful smile, twinkling eyes and sweet disposition.
Mary is the treasured mother of her five beloved children, Brian McRedmond and his wife Hope of Mason, OH; Joan Walsh of Coral Springs, FL; Dick McRedmond and his wife Christine of New Canaan; Debbie Weaton and her husband George of Ridgefield; and Cyndy Corrigan of Yorktown Heights, NY. She cherished her role as grandmother and great grandmother to her 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Of her eight siblings, Mary is survived by her sister, Wilma Fowler of Stamford; and her brothers, Frank Nemchek of Vero Beach, FL; Lawrence Nemchek of Shelton, CT; and Edward Nemchek of Stamford.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her sister, Bridget Thomas; her three brothers, Joseph, Alex and John Nemchek; and her son-in-law, Tom
Walsh.
Friends may call on Sunday, April 29 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue in Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 30 at 10:00 AM at St. Marys RC Church, 566 Elm St. in Stamford. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery in Darien.
