Mary C. Romeo, devoted wife, loving daughter, beloved sister, aunt and friend passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012 surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
Mary was born November 28, 1948 in Stamford the daughter of the late John Origi and Jennie (Caccavella) Origi. Mary graduated from Rippowam High School in 1966 and shortly after graduation, began her 45 year careen with GECC (now GE Capital). Her first position with GE was in the Payment Processing Department.; steadily moving up to the position of Facilities Manager, a position she held for more than 30 years. As Facilities Manager her numerous responsibilities included the management of the security and maintenance departments; company cafeteria; fitness center; company store; mail room; and office retrofit of GE’s four buildings located in Stamford. Before her illness, Mary was an avid runner and had completed several half marathons. She was also a “marathon” shopper, and a collector of Precious Moments figurines. She loved music and would crank up the volume to sing and dance around, especially when a Beach Boys tune was playing. She was a woman who cherished her family and friends and who lived by the golden rule of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Dominick R. (Donnie) Romeo of Riverside. Also surviving are three brothers and their spouses: Frank Origi and Kathy; Michael Origi and Pam; Dennis Origi and Dana; and three sisters Terri Marino and her husband Lenny; Beverly D’Aprile of Trumbull, CT and Michelle Greer; as well as brother-in-law Sam Romeo and his wife Mary of Greenwich and sister-in-laws Katherine Nielsen of Bethel. and Gloria Romeo (Chickie).
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Besides her father, Mary was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Joseph Romeo and her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Romeo.
The family gratefully acknowledges the physicians, physician’s assistants, nurses and staff of the Bennett Cancer Center for their kindness and the care given to Mary throughout her long illness. Thank you too to the staff at the Stamford Hospital’s 3rd floor cancer wing and the 4th floor critical care wing. Last, but certainly not least, to Mary’s other family, her G.E. family of friends who loved her and supported her throughout her illness, thank you.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, on Saturday, May 26th, 2012 at 10:15AM and proceed to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Catherine’s of Sienna RC Church, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside, CT at 11:00AM. Entombment will immediately follow at the St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, in the Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich, CT. Friends and Family may call at the funeral home on Friday, May 25th, 2012 from 6:00PM-8:00PM.
