Mary Starks

Mary Starks, most recently of New Canaan, died on January 8, 2009 at Norwalk Hospital. She was born in Conklin, Michigan on May 4, 1914, one of the five children of Frank and Orpha Haas. She married Joe Starks in Muskegon Heights, Michigan on November 26, 1936; Joe died in Hesperia, Michigan on October 23, 1985.
Mary taught elementary school for 32 years and was a graduate of Western Michigan University. She lived and taught in Muskegon, Holland and Hesperia, Michigan before retiring to Fort Myers Beach, Florida in 1985. She relocated to Connecticut in 2002, and received excellent care at Waveny Care Center.
Mary is survived by her son Samuel Starks and his wife Rebecca of Stamford; and by two granddaughters, Hilary Starks of Stamford and Emma Starks of Beijing, China. She also is survived by a sister, Jean Gaston of Michigan; and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Maurice and Earl Haas and by her sister Betty Haas.
There will be a funeral service at the Ina Ellen Chapel of St. John's Lutheran Church, 884 Newfield Avenue, Stamford at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Waveny Care Center Employee Benefit Fund. The Nicholas F.
